Here's further discussion from Hypebot about Zoe Keating's experience with performance royalties.  As you can see from the comments, the history of the Performing Rights Organizations and their policies haven't been easy to decipher and previously did not appear to be in the interest of the smaller, independent writers/performers.  The more light the better.  Secrecy benefits mostly the larger entities.
